Is Tucson hot in the summertime? Well do monkeys like bananas? Yes, Tucson is a very warm place in the summer, this is why there is a large assortment of people who only live here in the winter. Snowbirds from other states and a portion of our U of A students return home during the swelter season. If you happen to be in Tucson when our summer sun is shinning there are still ways to keep cool.
The greatest invention since sliced bread in Tucson is of course, air conditioning. Most homes have evaporative coolers that work well most of the summer when it is a “dry heat” but during the monsoon season when it is both hot and humid A/C is the way to go. So one way to stay cool in Tucson is to find the air conditioning.
Places to go with the best A/C in Tucson
The Mall Tucson has several malls all with really good air flow Tucson Mall on North Oracle even allows early morning indoor walking to beat the heat. The other malls in Tucson are The Foothills Mall, La Encantada, Park Place, and El Con Mall. All will get you cool air, some exercise, and some great buys.
The Casino Tucson is home to three Casinos, Desert Diamond, Casino of the Sun, and Casino Del Sol. All the Casinos in Tucson have places to eat within them, Bingo, and, of course, slots. The Casinos are kept really cool in the summer but if you don’t win at the slots your A/C could cost you a bit. It is a great place to wander around, get a good meal, and maybe play a hand of Poker or two.
The Museums Tucson is full of all types of Museums, from the Children’s Museum to the Tucson Museum of Art the list is quite long, during your stay make sure to check the phone book under museums and pick the venue you would like best, they are a nice way to admire the arts, and the cool temps inside.
Colossal Cave This Cave East of Tucson has a long and varied history and a temp in the mid 70′s inside during the summer making it a perfect place to “chill” out in nature’s beauty without the high electric bill.
Mt Lemmon – just outside of town, although really the upside of town is Mt. Lemmon our local place to cool off in the summer, with temps 20-30 degrees cooler than the desert floor you can find pine trees, a lake, lots of fabulous lookouts and hiking trails. It is a place to find fun in the shade.
There are many others places in Tucson to keep cool, Breakers Water Park, some of our fabulous eateries, but sometimes it is worth braving the heat, the Reid Park Zoo, the Sonora Desert Museum, the local National Parks so come to Tucson, and find out what makes us hot yet so cool!
