One tip I'd like to pass on is to pay special attention to the weight of your clothes and other gear. High performance clothing can be a bit more expensive but the real savings is in the number of ounces you have to carry on your back all day. and those ounces add up fast! A good super-lightweight tent will go a long way too, as you said the big three are where most hikers pack on the weight.

When hiking you don't want to carry more then 1/3 of your body weight and less is better. What we recommend is to figure out first how much weight you can comfortably carry and then work backwards from there adding in first the basics like sleeping bag, tent, and backpack and then essential gear, clothing and food. Every place you can cut ounces is an opportunity to save yourself pain.

happy trails!

I was actually looking for a blog on camping in Turkey (we just got back from some Turkey holidays and couldn't wait to go back) but now I think I might have to add a bit of Turkey hunting in there as well...
